A bit late on this. But just came across this Elvis birthday reflection on YouTube from Bono.
The poem is several years old done in a variety of video settings.
If you saw the U2 documentary “Rattle and Hum” you know that Elvis figures prominently in the imagery incorporated, interpreted and reimagined by the band.
So does Memphis in general, as Bono is also featured in one of the videos you can see at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music where Bono talks about the odds of one city having either Sun or Stax — let alone both music companies and more.
So watch and react.
One other sort of Elvis-related note.
The countywide school board meets in special session Thursday, Jan. 10, to take up several items including the naming of the optional school for the musical arts to open at what is now Humes Middle School with the school year that begins this August. Humes, as a high school, in the 1950s was the alma mater of Elvis Presley. The new name the board votes on Thursday is Bravo Academy.
