Cooper-Young’s restaurant scene is about to heat up yet again.
Karen Carrier’s long anticipated Bar DKDC is opening its doors at 946 S. Cooper St. Saturday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.
The bar will feature specialty cocktails, craft beers and small plates inspired by global street food. The 2,652-square-foot space adjacent to the Beauty Shop Restaurant and Lounge housed Do Sushi + Noodles for nine years, both also concepts of Carrier.
Do closed in October. A Facebook post by Carrier explained the transition: “…as the story goes, every 6 to 7 years – Ms. Thang – Little Twisty ( that’s me) gets bored and the time has come for a change and as Sam Cooke said.”
Meanwhile, a few doors North on Cooper, young chef Nick Seabergh recently joined Alchemy and has already made some menu changes. Seabergh came to Alchemy from the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Miss.
Alchemy opened at 940 S. Cooper in November 2011. The atmosphere is reminiscent of New York City and the menu features small plates and craft cocktails.
“We’ve worked hard this first year to be known for our innovation and sophistication,” Alchemy partner Bert Smythe said in a recent email. “We are excited that Nick is continuing and improving on our original concept. He’s known for his creative use of locally-sourced ingredients as well as cured meats and sausages. And more importantly, he’s a nice guy who is excited to be at Alchemy and in Memphis.”
