Memphis was mentioned in posts from two big national publications Thursday, Dec. 27, for something we’re evidently pretty good at – food.
First, Central BBQ was listed in (and pictured in the cover photo for) Forbes’ “10 Most Memorable Restaurant Meals of 2012.” Memphis’ beloved barbecue joint is among the ranks of eateries in California, Italy and London.
“Simply put, everything here is great, but especially the superlative ribs, the unique and addictive BBQ nachos, the homemade pork rinds with dry rub and the homemade kettle chips with bleu cheese dip,” contributor Larry Olmsted writes.
Next, The Wall Street Journal spotlighted the Memphis Grizzlies’ unique halftime half-court shot fan prize: a lifetime supply of Sonic tater tots.
Nearly two-thirds of NBA teams are running a similar promotion this season, but cash is the most typical reward for making that difficult shot, according to the article. Amounts range from $1,000 in Utah to $77,777 in Phoenix.
But Memphis, as we’re accustomed to doing, has flipped the script. To quote the popular Hoop City Memphis slogan, “This is Memphis. We grind here.”
