Leash Cutting Set for Overton Bark

Overton Park’s new dog park will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, June 2, with a host of festivities, starting with a 1-mile fun walk/dog parade, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Overton Square.

The parade will be followed by a welcome and comments from Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Overton Park Conservancy’s George Cates and Hollywood Feed president Shawn McGhee.

After the official “leash-cutting,” participants and their dogs will be welcomed into Overton Bark dog park for a celebration featuring a food truck rodeo, free frozen yogurt from YoLo, contests, and live music from local bands Wuvbirds, Side Street Steppers, Walrus and The Theoretical Monkeys.

Festival admission is free, but there’s a $15 advance registration fee for the fun walk/dog parade.

All proceeds will benefit The Streetdog Foundation and the Overton Park Conservancy.
