The group drafting the blueprint for a consolidated countywide public school system now has its own website.
Until now, the transition planning commission had been posting its information on Shelby County governments website on a page included among the many other sections for the many other sections of county government.
The new website is at www.ourvoiceourschools.org and it couldn’t come at a better time.
The commission is now at the point where it is starting to make decisions about the structure of the consolidated school system to come.
The group’s March 1 meeting could see a vote on the overall governing structure of the school system. This past Thursday, the group approved a set of education priorities we’ll have more about in Tuesday’s edition of The Daily News.
We’ve been covering a lot of the core issues involved since long before the Dec. 2010 vote by the MCS board to surrender its charter and there is a lot more coverage to come.
The editorial in the current edition of The Memphis News also offers an opinion that we hope will provoke thought and plenty of responses of all kinds.
But these days you also have better access to the source information, the raw material that shows how decisions are made. You determine whether you agree with the decisions or not.
This is a complex issue that at times can prompt even the most dedicated followers to throw up their hands and walk away for a time. But the importance of the issue is undeniable and worth the effort to sort through the complexities – keep what is relevant and discard what isn’t and participate.
