Arlo & Janis cartoonist coming to Memphis to speak
Jimmy Johnson, the cartoonist who writes and draws the syndicated comic strip Arlo & Janis, is coming to The Booksellers at Laurelwood Sat., Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. in support of his new book, “Beaucoup Arlo & Janis.”
The book is a collection from the comic strip.
From a release:
“Arranged chronologically, the works within create an arresting timeline that registers the change and growth of Arlo & Janis over 25 years, a core sample of comedy that will fascinate fans of this truly one-of-a-kind strip. It’s the best of the humor that made Arlo & Janis one of the most popular comic strips among newspaper readers wherever it appears.”
A local tidbit: Johnson’s ex-wife is former Commercial Appeal columnist Rheta Grimley Johnson. Readers have sometimes imagined autobiographical references in the strip, especially since Janis bears a physical resemblance to Grimley Johnson.
