Daily News Website and Investigative Reporting Wins Awards

If you got to this blog through our website, you are reading the best newspaper website in the state for a newspaper this size.
The Daily News Online won first place in the TAPME — Tennessee Associated Press Managing Editors — awards announced tonight in Nashville.
The Daily News is entered in Division 4, the division for daily newspapers across the state with a circulation of less than 10,000.
And Daily News Senior Reporter Andy Meek won the prestigious Malcolm Law Investigative Reporting Award for his coverage of Consulting Services Group, a consultant to Shelby County government on its pension fund investments.
His coverage of CSG was selected because of its level of detail and his ability to connect the dots in a story that had a lot of angles — all of them made more interesting by his writing.
The Daily News also dominated the business news awards category with a second place finish for Tom Wilemon’s coverage of GTx — the Memphis based medical research company that specializes in men’s health care issues. Meek and Eric Smith won third place for their coverage of Memphis-based FedEx.
If you are a regular viewer of our website, you know that we’ve worked very hard in the last year or so to make the website better in terms of graphics, the arrangement of stories and the quality of photos.
We recently began posting the new edition of The Daily News at around 4pm each afternoon.
We are very proud of what we’ve accomplished in recent years. The awards in Nashville are a nice confirmation of hard work by a small staff that works both hard and smart.
