Starting next week, fred’s Super Dollar will commemorate first responders who fell in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks through a fundraiser for the emergency teams that serve fred’s stores communities.
The event will run from Aug. 18 through Sept. 12, during which stores will sell “Hero Hats” for $1 each. The hats are paper cut-outs that customers pay $1 to sign and hang in the windows of their local fred’s Super Dollar stores.
Since the promotion began in 2002, the company has raised more than $2.8 million for local fire, police and sheriff departments – and almost $330,000 in 2013 alone.
All proceeds will go to the emergency teams that would be first responders in the event of a crisis in the store’s specific areas. Also, all operating profits from store sales taking place on Sept. 11 will be donated.
