Memphis optometrist trying out Google Glass

The Eyewear Gallery in Memphis has been chosen as one of 1,400 sites worldwide allowed to test Google Glass, the wearable computing device from Google expected to see a launch this year to the general public.

Dr. Warren Johnson of The Eyewear Gallery, which is at 428 Perkins Ext., will be specifically exploring things like ways to pair Glass to designer frames and sunglasses as well as looking at the possibilities of pairing glass with high definition custom prescription lenses and using glass in the exam room for helping with diagnosis and taking and sending images to patients and other doctors.

The version of Glass he’s using features a 640 x 360 heads-up prism display that Google claims is “the equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from eight feet away.” Glass is also equipped with a 5 megapixel camera that is capable of capturing high definition video at 720p resolution.

The Eyewear Gallery version of Glass also is equipped with custom ear buds and a sun shield.
