Plough Foundation gives big gift to Rhodes College

The Plough Foundation has awarded a $4.4 million grant to Rhodes College to go toward the renovation and expansion of the college’s sciences facilities.

To that end, Rhodes will host a community celebration Aug. 21 at 4:15 p.m. in the Frazier Jelke Science Center lobby on the college’s campus.

In recent years, Rhodes has added new majors and academic programs in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, environmental sciences and studies, and community health and urban studies. Despite that fresh interest in the sciences, Rhodes’ current science buildings were built more than 50 years ago and need to be renovated to accommodate the type of research-based, interdisciplinary group work required in today’s environment.
