Southaven among nation’s best places to retire

CNN Money has ranked Memphis’ neighbor to the south as one of the nation’s top retirement spots.

The list is made up of 10 cities that are “easy on your wallet” for various reasons – cost of living, affordable homes and reasonable tax rates. Southaven has all of that and more.

“For homeowners 65 or older, the first $75,000 of a primary home’s market value is exempt from property taxes,” the article reads. “Not bad, considering you can find a great rambler for less than $150,000. Meanwhile, qualified retirement income and Social Security income is exempt from state taxes.”

But Southaven’s perks don’t stop there. The article touts the area’s state-of-the-art, 339-bed Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, Southaven’s DeSoto Civic Center and Snowden Grove Amphitheatre.

And let’s not forget a handful of industrial deals inked so far this year, with more on the horizon, sources say.

Clarksville, Tenn., also made the list.
