Despite the ongoing NBA lockout and pending uncertainty for the upcoming season, there’s great news coming from the Memphis Grizzlies.
Grizzlies’ mascot Grizz has been named the 2011 NBA Mascot of the Year, an honor voted on by his peers at the league’s annual mascot meetings in Milwaukee.
Now entering his 17th season, Grizz is known for his flips and stunts – often through hoops of fire – to get the crowd roaring. This year is Grizz’s first time to receive the award.
“The NBA Mascot of the Year Award is a tremendous honor for Grizz, the Grizzlies organization and members of Grizz Nation across the world,” Grizzlies president of business operations Greg Campbell said in a statement. “We are extremely proud of the efforts of Grizz, our game presentation staff and the host of other departments who collaborate to present Grizz’s one-of-a-kind brand of entertainment year round.”
The Grizzlies will be hosting its first Grizz event of the fall tonight, Sept. 1, at Overton park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free food and entertainment will be provided. Check out the Facebook event for more information.
