The Daily News reported last week that construction to transform The Pyramid arena into a Bass Pro Shops superstore will begin Oct. 11.
It’s a project the Convention and Visitors Bureau is anxiously awaiting, said J. John Oros, executive vice president and chief operating officer of convention development.
“We feel that that project will revitalize the Pinch District, which is an important amenity for the convention center,” Oros said. “We need to have a thriving and financially successful Pinch District to add to the package that the convention delegate receives when they come into to the city.”
Another element convention delegates are looking for, Oros said, is a city’s retail appeal. Bass Pro will do nothing but compliment Downtown’s retail offerings and spur future growth.
“It’s going to enhance the dining experience in the Pinch District for all of those visitors,” he said. “We need to have great restaurants near our primary convention venue. That will aid us in our efforts to recruit new conventions to the city.”
