No charges had been filed as of late Sunday night and no identifying information has yet been released by the Memphis Police Dept. about the suspect involved in a fatal shootout at the Doubletree Hotel Downtown.
An investigation is ongoing.
From an MPD release:
“MEMPHIS, July 4, 2011- The Director of Police Services, Toney Armstrong, confirms that Officer Timothy Warren was shot and killed in the line of duty on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at approximately 7:00 p.m. Officer Warren, male, 39, was one of several police officers who responded to a Shots Fired call at the Doubletree Hotel, located at 185 Union Avenue.
The preliminary investigation revealed officers arrived on the scene, and located one male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officer Warren encountered the suspect and was also shot. An ambulance was called to the scene for both victims. Officer Warren was transported to the Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other shooting victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. He has not been positively identified at this time.
The suspect was taken into custody on the scene. He was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition due to injuries sustained during the arrest.
Officer Timothy Warren has served as a Memphis Police Officer since July 2003. He was assigned to the Entertainment District Unit in South Main Station.”
