It was the year Elvis Presley skyrocketed to superstardom and changed the face of music and pop culture forever.
1956 was a year of firsts for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll:
- 1st RCA single, “Heartbreak Hotel”
- 1st album, “Elvis Presley”
- 1st movie, “Love Me Tender”
- 1st television appearances on The Dorsey Brothers’ “Stage Show,” “The Milton Berle Show,” “The Steve Allen Show” and “The Ed Sullivan Show”
In honor of the 55th anniversary of 1956, Elvis Presley Enterprises is inviting talented Elvis fans to get out their paintbrushes, cameras and other mediums to create a work of art that symbolizes Elvis in 1956 by April 28.
The chosen pieces will be published on Elvis.com in May and fans will be able to vote on their favorites using the Facebook ‘Like’ button. The artist receiving the most ‘Likes’ during the voting period will win 56 Elvis prizes, including a trip to Elvis Week 2011, tickets to Viva ELVIS by Cirque du Soleil and a cabin on the 2012 Elvis Cruise.
