Memphis’ Rental Percentage High, But Not the Highest

In a recent article about Memphis’ rental business, Jim Reedy of Memphis Investment Properties is quoted as saying the city’s rate sits at about 48 percent.

Sounds high at first, considering the state’s average is 30 percent. But it’s still lower than Nashville’s 45 percent, Jackson, Miss.’s 43 percent and Atlanta’s 56 percent, according to city-data.com and Joe Spake‘s research.

Out of 271,723 houses in Memphis, 250,810 are occupied, 140,083 are owner-occupied and 110,727 are renter occupied.
