(Update to this post: Sony has now pulled the plug on the movie’s distribution)
The Malco cinema chain in Memphis, for now, is still planning to show the controversial Seth Rogen/James Franco flick “The Interview” when it comes out on Christmas Day.
Sony has taken the unusual step of saying theatres don’t have to show it because of the controversy attached to it and because of security concerns. Five of the biggest chains in the U.S. have said they won’t be showing the movie – according to The Hollywood Reporter, they include Regal Entertainment, AMC, Cinemark, Carmike Cinemas and Cineplex Entertainment.
A Malco spokesman Wednesday morning said “while no final decision has been made, now we are still playing the film.”
