We tweeted out this news before the Thanksgiving break, but in case you missed it:
The state released October’s employment figures right before everyone left for Thanksgiving, and they don’t look good locally for the month. Shelby County’s jobless rate ticked way up in October – from 8.6 percent in Oct. 2012 to 10.1 percent in October of this year.
One thing to note: in January of this year, about 42,000 people were recorded as unemployed in Shelby County. By October, that figure was up to about 42,730.
Over the course of 2013, in other words, the jobless picture has worsened in Shelby County.
