WREG ownership changing hands

WREG anchor Richard Ransom let the cat out of the bag in March that the WREG news station was up for sale, part of Local TV moving to dispose of all its TV stations. And now that’s coming to pass.

Today, Tribune Co. announced a $2.73 billion to buy those stations, putting WREG in new corporate hands. TribCo currently owns almost two dozen TV stations plus the WGN cable network, as well as newspapers including the LA Times and Chicago Tribune.

Today’s news makes TribCo the largest commercial TV station owner in the U.S.
