Memphis music at the White House

It’ll be a Memphis music night at the White House next week.

President Obama and the First Lady as part of their “In Performance at the White House” series, have invited a host of stars to perform in celebration of Memphis soul music. Performers for the concert, which will be broadcast April 16 at 8 p.m. eastern on PBS stations, include Justin Timberlake, Al Green, Queen Latifah, Alabama Shakes, Steven Cropper, Mavis Staples, Charlie Musselwhite and Booker T. Jones as band leader.

The performance will be streamed live Tues., April 9, at starting at 6:55 p.m. eastern.

Related to this, Michelle Obama is hosting a daytime event for students on “Soulsville USA: The History of Memphis Soul.”
