Progressive Nat’l Baptist Convention Brings 4,000 to Downtown

The Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc. is convening in Memphis this week for its 51st annual gathering, bringing more than 4,000 visitors Downtown.

The convention, which begun Monday, Aug. 6 and continues through Friday, Aug. 10, marks the groups’ return to Memphis after 18 years.

“We’re delighted to welcome Progressive National Baptist back to Memphis,” said John Oros, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The continuous courting of Progressive National Baptist through the years by our national convention sales and services team, combined with Reverend Billy Kyle’s local support, and the organization’s connection to the memory of Dr. King, were critical factors in bringing the group back to Memphis.”
