The United States Tennis Association Tennessee Adult and Senior Championships return to Memphis this month, bringing about 1,200 adult tennis players to the city from across the state over two weekends.
The adult tournament will be held Friday, June 8 to Sunday, June 10. The senior tournament will be June 22 to 24.
Tournament play will be held at a variety of tennis centers including the host site, Leftwich Tennis Center. Other locations include Wolbrecht Tennis Center, Rhodes College, Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center and Germantown Country Club. In the event of rain, The Racquet Club of Memphis and WellWorX Sporting Clubs will supplement indoor courts. All play is open to the public.
To kick off the tournament, a welcome reception will be held at Handy Park on Beale Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 and June 23.
Memphis has 3,000 players in the USTA Adult leagues, and bringing the state championship to the Bluff City was an effort five years in the making. In past years, local players who have advanced in the tournament would have had to travel to Nashville, Chattanooga or Knoxville.
