Memphis Dawgs – a gourmet hot dog stand owned by Todd Bourne – has set up shop in Wolfchase Galleria’s food court for a 30-day trial period in the old Subway space.
“It’s crazy how it kind of happened,” Bourne said. “The Wolfchase Mall called me about three weeks ago and told me that they didn’t have a hotdog on a bun in the mall (besides the pretzel dogs at Auntie Anne’s.) They asked me if I’d come in on kind of a no-strings-attached deal to see if it would work. Yesterday was our opening day, we opened for dinner last night and it was pretty good, so I’m expecting it to be good.”
Bourne started Memphis Dawgs in February 2010. His usual spots include Poplar Avenue in East Memphis and on the Main Street Mall Downtown. He also does catering for local businesses like Oak Hall, Vineyard Vines and Amro Music in Midtown.
“I will still do some private events for those guys, but I’m really going to put most of my effort here in the mall while I’m here,” Bourne said. “I’ve been serving the best product I think here in Memphis and I don’t want to change anything, I want to keep doing exactly what I’ve been doing because so far, it’s been working.”
His younger brother Tommy (@DawgerTom) also regularly sets up at the Kroger in The Shops of Kirby Gate, but for the time being, is helping him out at Wolfchase.
“We hope to be in here longer than 30 days,” Bourne said. “We’ve finally some air conditioning, man. I’ve been outside the last two years on Poplar, so I’m kind of digging the air, no doubt about it.”
