Daily News reporter in the Newseum

A photo of Daily News reporter Tom Wilemon is hanging in the Newseum.

The Newseum is a seven-level, 250,000-square-foot museum at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW in Washington D.C. devoted exclusively to journalism.

The museum recently opened an exhibit to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. It’s in the “Early News Gallery” on Level 6 – and that’s where a photo of Tom comforting a Katrina survivor can be found.

Tom was once a reporter for the Sun Herald, one of the two papers (along with New Orleans’ Times-Picayune) that were literally “in the path of the storm,” according to the museum, which put significant challenges in front of its reporters who went on to cover the aftermath and provide much-needed information about it to their readers.
